On December 5th 1997, I married a guy that I had met in Ukiah, named Jason Day Ardenyi. We had our problems but the main one happened on October 1st 1998. We were on our way to work that morning when Jason lost control of our car. We spun into the other lane of oncoming traffic and another car struck the rear end of the passenger side where I was sitting. Jason had only a mere scratch on his face, I, however, was not quite so lucky. I had whiplash, a concussion, a punctured spleen, a lacerated liver and my neck was broken. I was placed in a brace called a Halo, and my spleen was removed on that same day. On October 12th the neurosurgeon took a piece of my hip bone and placed it in my neck to allow the fusion to occur. Then a plastic vest was attached to the Halo so that I could move around without injuring myself again. I had to wear that contraption until January 11th 1999. After it was removed I had to wear a Philadelphia Collar, until my neck was strong enough to handle being without it. By this time my husband and I had decided not to stay together. The accident report says that it was his fault and he was driving too fast. I may never know. I am fine now except for the fact that I don't have as much movement as I used to and I can no longer lay on my stomach. This is my life in short up until now. I tell my story to others with the hope that they won't take life for granted, along with seemingly small things like being able to move your neck, or drink from a cup without a straw. You never realize how important your neck is until until one day it's broken.
I hope you enjoyed my story and my website, take care and...
